Which WAT Carton Sealing Machine Should You Choose for Different SKUs and Sizes?

You're probably familiar with the process of your packaging line running mixed SKU sizes. The carton sealing machine finishes one carton type, the next SKU arrives at the feed inlet, and the line stops. A worker goes over, loosens the guide rails, adjusts the width, resets the height, tightens everything, runs a test carton, and then adjusts again. Several minutes are wasted on adjustments. Multiplying this by the number of switchovers, an hour's worth of carton sealing output is gone just like that.
In these steps, the worker is fine, the tape is fine, the carton is fine. The problem is that this machine is designed to run one carton type all day, and with your increasing business volume, this production line should have been upgraded long ago.
Before discussing the machine, one thing is worth discussing: why choose water-activated tape?
Traditional pressure-sensitive tape relies on surface contact. The adhesive layer grips the outer linerboard of the corrugated cardboard, maintaining it through initial tack. However, the adhesion remains on the surface, and under continuous load or temperature changes, surface adhesion is the first step to fail.
Water-activated tape uses a different bonding method. Starch adhesive penetrates the corrugated fibers and cures within the substrate. Once set, the tape and carton are structurally integrated. It cannot be peeled off without tearing off a layer of board. For modern packaging production lines, this fiber-level adhesive will no longer be a weak point in your carton sealing. Furthermore, water-activated tape meets the latest regulations, is environmentally friendly, and has tamper-proof properties. Using fiber-reinforced water-activated tape can also enhance the tensile strength of your packaging.
The practical impact of using this tape on machine selection is that the sealing process requires integrating a water-activated system into the tape path. The machine wets the tape, applies it, and presses in the flaps. This is a different mechanical process than pressing a dry pressure-sensitive adhesive strip onto the carton.

The right machine depends on your line's specific priorities. Use these questions to narrow it down:
Whether your line runs standard parcels, heavy industrial cartons, or requires fully automated handling, the KN WAT case sealer series eliminates bottlenecks and provides a machine tailored to your specific throughput and size requirements.
The KN-1717U, KN-1721R, and KN-2626U all deliver the permanent, fiber-tearing WAT bond that keeps cartons closed from the packing line to the final destination. The question isn't whether WAT is the right seal. It's which machine—standard semi-auto, heavy-duty, or fully automatic—best fits your box mix and operational priorities.
